A Special Message
The Supreme Court’s decision to render Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey void is a betrayal of women’s fundamental rights. These cases upheld individual liberty and the right to privacy, the right to equal protection under the law, and the right to bodily autonomy for all citizens.
The SCOTUS decision relegates women to a second class citizen status. The consequences will include huge economic loss for the nation that will most severely affect those who are already struggling economically. We all understand the link between economic mobility, opportunity, and individual determination. We know many people have diverse views regarding abortion. Without self-determination, equality and opportunity, this is not a life-affirming decision.
Our mission work is about empowering women. Today we stand with every woman who now has fewer rights than their mother did. We stand with our colleagues as we continue to work every day to promote and ensure equity and equality for all persons in our communities, regardless of gender, race, or wealth.
